Un gorro ruso
Pérez Díaz, Claudio
Pérez Moratilla, Claudia
On July 23, 1936, when the rebel troops entered Ribadeo, the brothers Manuel and Claudio Pérez Prieto saw their youthful dreams fade away: the defense of the Republic and the Statute of Galicia ended abruptly for them and their lives shattered . Manuel, who was a doctor, crossed the river to As Figueiras (Asturias), where he suffered an ordeal of war, prison, torture, convictions, repression and an internal exile shared for years by his family. Claudio fled to the mountain, far from Ribadeo, in Frieira, where he remained hidden for a while; he succeeded in reaching New York and resided there for fifteen years before returning home. With an emotional memoirist tone, Claudio Pérez Díaz and his daughter Claudia Pérez Moratilla narrate in "Un gorro ruso" the events experienced by these two relatives of theirs, active participants in the Galician politics of Ribadeo. This is the story of a family, with their unique memories and feelings, but at the same time shared and similar to other accounts of those who suffered the consequences of defending the Republic and losing the war.
