Zaintzaren hariak

Arrieta Frutos, Félix
There is no more important and urgent issue today than the debate we must have about care. The pandemic has socially redefined us all, especially the elderly. Most elderly people provide more care (within their family, community level, etc.) than they ask for from the public system. Even if their social account balance is positive, we have defined them as -residents- who do not have the ability to self-determine, who need to be taken care of, deprived of the social function they fulfill in the family and in the environment, as a source of expenditure. A 360-degree journey of caring for the elderly and vulnerable people is made in the following pages, and the reader will often see himself reflected in it, in any of the different faces: because he or someone close to him is in one of these situations, or because he is certain that he will be in one of these situations at some point. The call to put care at the center is due to feminism (that too). It is not surprising, because the responsibility of care work is mainly on the backs of women, and this constitutes the skeleton of the inequality that has lasted for centuries, both in the private sphere and in the public sphere. This is undoubtedly a question that goes beyond the scope of this book. But the author has not turned his back, he recognizes the contribution of feminism, and invites us to continue to drink from it while asking for the reorganization of public social services. It seems to me an honest, respectful and very appropriate starting point. Thanks for that too, Felix. From the Foreword by Pilar Kaltzada.
