Yo soy mi propia mujer

Yo soy mi propia mujer

una vida

Mahlsdorf, Charlotte von

Charlotte von Mahlsdorf (1928-2002), born Lothar Berfelde, lived an existence as charged with tension and adventures as a thriller. A withdrawn and sensitive adolescent, born in a stifling family environment, he survived, already transformed into a transvestite, first his despotic father, whom he killed in self-defense, later the Nazi regime and later the communist dictatorship of the former GDR. She became a famous gay and lesbian rights activist in her country, in the 1990s she courageously faced attacks and threats from skinheads and neo-Nazis. In these exciting memoirs, Charlotte von Mahlsdorf shows us above all as a stubborn and fighting personality, who knew how to go through all the hells of intolerance, misunderstanding and rejection with dignity against those who dare to go off the beaten track. This autobiography was brought to the table on two occasions: in 2004 by the American Douglas Wright (I Am My Own Wife, 2004), and by the German Peter Süss (Ich bin meine eigene Frau, 2006).
