Una voz dulce resonó en mi oído

Una voz dulce resonó en mi oído

Castro, Rosalía de

Rosalía de Castro is, without a doubt, one of the most important poetic voices of the Spanish lyric of the 19th century Romanticism. A great precursor of poetic modernity, the author continues to be, even today, the spitting image of the spirit and the literary alma mater of her native Galicia. She worked to defend Galician letters, giving them back the dignity and cultured character of a literary language, and she denounced the rural poverty and precariousness of her town. She is a key figure in the Galician resurgence, she wrote both in her mother tongue -Galician- and in Spanish. Her verses, loaded with pessimism but with a sublime sensitivity, have inspired other great authors such as Antonio Machado, Luisa Carnés or Juan Ramón Jiménez. They say that before she died she asked to see the sea and critics point out that this was the image that Rosalía de Castro had of her death in her poems: the immensity of the sea in which to rest.
