Tristissima noctis imago

Gimferrer, Pere

Titled with the Latin words of a beautiful verse by Ovid, Pere Gimferrer's new collection of poems follows in the footsteps of his latest installments, Not in my days and Las llamas, both published in Vandalia, and combines for the first time in a single book the poems written in Spanish and others, four of a total of sixteen, in Catalan, which are also offered in the Spanish version of Justo Navarro. For the most part brief, the poems of Tristissima noctis imago, concise and enigmatic, of unusual power and intensity, are presented full of images and glimpses that in their radical secrecy go beyond language or use it to create a reality. different and transcended. It is not necessary to access or fully access the multitude of hidden meanings, the endless number of references that populate the poet's head and materialize in partial or elliptical allusions, to be carried away by the beauty and mystery of his characteristic diction, lavish in discoveries, sound games and ineffable epiphanies. The edition includes, as an epilogue, a lyrical essay, "Arde el Ser", where José Luis Rey reviews and celebrates Gimferrer's career since its inception, with special attention to the brilliance of his most recent stage, which has added in these years new and unavoidable contributions to the great work of someone who will always be, as Octavio Paz sentenced, a young poet.
