Fosse, Jon
Jon Fosse is a playwright, storyteller, but, above all, a poet. He is a poet whose obsession is light: the diaphanous light of northern Europe, almost impossible, the light of solitude, which illuminates the world in its simplicity, which is a bridge between the mortal and the infinite, between the visible. and the invisible. Mystical light emanates from each of his poems. Fosse belongs to one of the most complex and fascinating poetic traditions: the Orphic tradition. That is, those poets who, in the midst of destruction, nihilism, the end of all truths and beauty, have taken on the arduous task of reconstructing the sacred meaning of the world. It is not, however, difficult writing. The sacred meaning of the world -as Hölderlin, Trakl and Rilke have taught us, with whom he engages in dialogue throughout these books- is latent, hidden, in the simplest things: in a child, in a boat, in the snow, in an animal, on a path through the forest or in memory. And perhaps that is the key point of Fosse's poetics: the memory and presence of childhood. Individual childhood and the childhood of the world. When the impossible is the everyday; when magic and wonder cover everything; when every element of existence, no matter how minuscule, is a reason for astonishment and joy. But also when the pain and melancholy are more serious.
