Pequeños cuerpos de agua

Pequeños cuerpos de agua

Powles, Nina

Nina Mingya Powles learned to swim in Borneo, where her mother was born and her grandfather studied the fish that inhabited its waters. The pool she used to go to in her childhood became the first body of water she knew. Since then, on her many trips around the world, she has found numerous bodies of water with different meanings: from the rugged coast of New Zealand, through Shanghai and Malaysia, to a women-only pond in northwest London. . However, despite their differences, all of them have felt like home to her. In this essay, which mixes writing about the natural world and its wonders with autobiographical elements, Powles delicately explores the bodies of water that separate and connect us in the modern world, and talks about what it means to grow up between two cultures and feel at home in many places.
