Opinions d'un pallasso

Böll, Heinrich

Hans Schnier is a fallen artist. His wife, Marie, has left him for another and has thus taken away the only chance he had of being happy. On the verge of failure and economic bankruptcy, Hans returns to Bonn, his home, after his last and failed performance. Once there, he starts calling all his acquaintances in hopes that someone will help him locate Marie. Between calls, the memories of a lifetime are making their way to the reader: the death of the sister, the bad relationship with the family, the youth with Marie... And, against the backdrop, the disenchantment with the moral, political and religious situation in post-World War II Germany.
