Mientras estamos muertos
Ovejero, José R.
Can memory be separated from imagination? Isn't every individual history a form of social history? José Ovejero uses these two questions to build a world that is both his own and another's, autobiography and fiction, without the limits always being clear. While we are dead he tells the story of a working class family that is progressing in the oppressive years of late Francoism. The son, who has become an expert in escapes, like all the animals he grows up with, narrates family life sometimes as a horror story, sometimes as a comedy. With an original look that breaks the conventions of the genre, Ovejero talks about family tensions, silent violence, the desire to escape class limitations, and also about love, creating a game of mirrors in which the author is not so much reflected like the reader.
