Me llamaré Silver Stardust
Martínez Deaño, Nuria
In the winter of 1999, an ordinary junkie enters a kunda that takes him to a shantytown on the outskirts of Madrid to pick up drugs. And events precipitate: on the edge of a night on the brink of the millennium, begins a journey into the childhood of that junkie who wanders around Madrid in search of redemption, a junkie who as a child, at the age of twelve, everyone called Silver and that he thought he was lucky, that he had a father who was a hero, a mother who wouldn't stop crying, a prodigious left hand for soccer, and a shared secret, and a gang of friends and the desire to smoke on the sly, to grow up, to succeed, to play bass in a rock group and call themselves Silver Stardust... I'll call myself Silver Stardust is a dazzling, unexpected novel, a literary discovery that masterfully balances nostalgia, tenderness and compassion; that portrays the Madrid of the seventies and nineties without sweetening it or wallowing in costumbrismo; with characters that are alive, that are real and believable. So much so that they never stop losing. Luckily its author achieves the feat of getting, somehow, to save them all.
