Materialidad y técnica
una aproximación cultural a la práctica artística occidental
Bernárdez Sanchís, Carmen
Vega, Jesusa
The autonomous study of the art object dates back to the European eighteenth century when the expression "fine arts" became established, but since the mid-twentieth century there has been a progressive shift towards the study of context. Consequently, without ceasing to appreciate the aesthetic value, the work of art is understood as a cultural artifact resulting from matter (practically every work of art has a material body), from technique (knowledge of the skills and tools to work matter in that constant evolution of incorporation of new materials and technologies) and the behavior of the artist. The richness offered by this new approach is what has made this book possible in which it deals with technique and matter as a methodology to know the way of doing, the artistic practice in its evolution as knowledge inherited and transmitted where they take place. ruptures, changes and innovations in the use of materials and tools, innovations that are incorporated in turn enriching the legacy.
