Los que se van y los que se quedan

Saniee, Parinoush

An Iranian family separated by the 1979 revolution reunites for ten days in a house on the coast of Turkey. The matriarch has not seen some of her six children for almost thirty years, her grandchildren do not speak the same language, and she realizes that the weight of misunderstandings and the time that has elapsed has deeply divided her family: those who have left they miss their land, while those who have remained in it envy the riches and comforts enjoyed by their relatives abroad. After several quarrels, she warns her children that it is time to heal the wounds before the breakup is final. Each one harbors reproaches deep inside, resentments fueled by ignorance, the need to brag about their successes or justify their shortcomings. The mother listens to the different points of view, she understands both the nostalgia for the homeland and the yearning for freedom, and reconciles the exiles with those who never left.
