Las muertas
Ibargüengoitia, Jorge
Sánchez Jiménez, Antonio
(ed.)
Critics have easily recognized the evidence that immediately strikes the reader of "Las muertas": being in front of a masterpiece. And it is that this book, which is undoubtedly among the best works of Jorge Ibargüengoitia, captivates immediately thanks to the special brilliance of the virtues that characterize the whole of the work of the author from Guanajuato: direct but elegant style, recognizable but memorable characters, absurd but realistic (or even real) situations, etc. In some of these qualities, such as the division of the plot into scenes, the strength of the dialogues or the conciseness of the descriptions, which sometimes border on the dimension, we recognize the imprint of the theater, a genre in which Ibargüengoitia began in Literature. However, these virtues as a playwright come hand in hand with very mature novelistic techniques, all seasoned with the black humor that characterized the Mexican and that in "Las muertas" reaches perhaps disturbing extremes.
