La sombra del rey de Jerusalén
Tejada Navas, Agustín
Jerusalem, the year 1175. Baldwin IV was crowned King of Jerusalem a few months ago when he was barely a teenager, but he suffers clear symptoms of leprosy. His guardians want to protect him from all kinds of dangers and accidents, but he insists on being trained in weapons, like any Christian crusader. Such a tricky assignment falls to Amadís Pérez de Traba, a gentleman of Hispanic origin with prodigious skill with the sword. A taciturn man, shaken by his own tragedy: he lost his little son, also due to leprosy, and his wife, who threw herself from a wall when she could not bear the mishap . All this led him to enter the Order of San Lázaro, of which he is its grand master. With the help of Amadis, Balduino hardens his body and his spirit. He is reborn as a man and as a soldier when many already gave him up for dead. He is determined to reign and to defend his territory from the attacks of a new Muslim leader named Saladin. Despite the fact that the disease is relentless, Balduino will fight great battles alongside the Templars, Hospitallers and Knights of Saint Lazarus. In such an intense reign, he will share everything with his master of arms: the victories, the disasters, the intrigues at court... and even the love of the woman who sneaks, unintentionally, between both hearts. As the end approaches, the dying king entrusts a last wish to whom up to that moment he has been like his very shadow. Amadis trembles when he hears it. The man who has never shunned a battle in his life is now torn between duty and disobedience. The fight for the kingdom of Jerusalem has only just begun for the Grand Master of Saint Lazarus...
