Guanyem amb la llengua
el català durant el franquisme
Yeste, Elena
How was Catalan taught and learned during the Franco regime? We win with the tongue. Catalan during the Franco regime tells us completely unknown stories: those of teachers, students, flats, schools... that not only from the repression, the underground and the legality saved a language but also they saved a society and a country. Since its arrival, the Franco regime has not been able to stop the transmission of Catalan. It continues to be done live in private homes, private entities. In the shadows, underground, the first Catalan classes are organized. Barcelona and Reus are promoting a new way to learn Catalan by sending it by post. During the Franco regime, a movement was born of schools that continue to defend the Catalan school model and connect with the pre-war pedagogical tradition. These are the days when the verses rescue the country, the language. In August 1944, the Cantonigròs Parish Poetry Competition was created. A literary contest in Catalan that, for 25 summers, becomes a refuge for Catalan literature. In 1969, the popular campaigns "Català a l'escola" and "Cultura en ruta" launched Catalan once again. In the seventies, the Catalan Education Delegation of Òmnium Cultural encouraged the creation of a network of teachers to introduce two hours of Catalan in the school. A movement that was instituted in the schools of Santa Coloma de Gramenet in 1972, is gradually gaining the space of Catalan in schools. A victory begins.
