Gastrosofía
una historia inédita de la filosofía
Macía, Cristina
Infante, Eduardo
In the middle of the 19th century, the picturesque German thinker Eugen von Vaerst wrote a delicious text entitled Gastrosophie, a hedonistic elegy to the communion between good eating, good thinking and good living. In its wake, the authors of this book undertake a pilgrimage from the culinary norms of Pythagoras to the frugality of Plato (with the exception of figs), both more interested in the purity of the soul or of ideas than in the joys of the body. ; without forgetting the idyllic Garden of Epicurus, precedent of organic self-cultivation, going through the sick mania for fasting of some distinguished thinkers of the Middle Ages, until reaching the unsuspected fondness for wine of the circumspect Hegel or the not so unsuspected fondness for beer and cigars of a perpetual would-be bon vivant like Marx.
