Strepsiades, an old farmer, has married a woman from the city, from a good family. Pheidippides, his son, spoiled by his mother since childhood, has become fond of horses and ruined his father who is pursued by his creditors. After a sleepless night, Strepsiades devises a magnificent plan: he will take his son to the school of sophists, run by Socrates, where he will learn the art of persuasion with words. But the boy refuses to go and it is the old man himself who, harassed by creditors, decides to go to the "penitentiary". Learning, however, turns out to be a failure, since Strepsiades is unable to assimilate anything and the only thing he achieves is to despair Socrates with his nonsense. A witty satire of the new model of education that the sophists were introducing into Athenian society at the time and which must have scared the defenders of traditional values ??so much, because the sophistic methods called everything into question: morality, virtue, justice, truth,...
