Els homes

Schrobsdorff, Angelika

Eveline Clausen -the alter ego of Angelika Schrobsdorff- becomes, in an unstoppable crescendo, an unforgettable figure of flesh and blood. The raw and stark sincerity of the author both to portray herself, pampered and proud, and to draw with irony the men who fall one after another into their hands (Germans, Bulgarians, Russians, Americans, English... it is as if the political history of Europe went through its bed) is extraordinary. And it is that The Men speaks to us -as if it were pamphlet literature- of the obsession by the seduction, but at heart it is the drama of a woman who is at the same time victim and executioner in postwar Germany. The initial edition of 1961 produced a political and moral scandal, although it was published without the final two chapters and with many cut-out fragments. In Germany it was not published in full until 1986. This translation is the first and only one that contains the full text.
