El misterio de la posada Serny
Apolloni, Marco Fabio
Rome, January 1839. The illusionist Bartolomeo Bosco, the French consul Henry Beyle, still little-known novelist who signs under the pseudonym Stendhal, the young Russian writer Nikolaj Gogol and the opera singer Giuditta Grisi meet by chance at the renowned inn Serny from Piazza di Spagna. The four characters take turns telling their stories, ranging from the ruins of ancient Rome to the conclave for the election of the new Pope, from a mysterious episode of popular piety to the problematic staging of a new melodrama by the great Bellini... In the inn there is a wall with a Christ from whom blood flows; holy men and saints of dubious status parade through the novel; the Carbonari Freemasons also have their space; cardinals, bankers and the Blessed Virgin of Loreto; criminals, smugglers and one who sold his soul. And much more. All the stories, apparently unconnected, converge towards a final twist, which will reveal more than one mystery.
