El enigma de Shakespeare
Sanchis Ferrándiz, Ramón
A vacation trip to Italy will be the trigger that uncovers a surprising mystery. John Leslie Hotson, a tenacious researcher specializing in the theater of the Elizabethan era, acquires some handwritten letters from an unknown author at an antiques dealer in Padua. In them he discovers quotes about the murder of an English writer implicating Her Majesty's secret service. In London, with the help of investigator Calvin Hoffman and documentarian Sophie Anniston, he begins to investigate the contents of the letters. No names appear. There are no signatures. However, some strange marks will reveal who is the author of the writings. But not everything will be so obvious, because the false death of a spy in the service of the crown will cause a series of events that Hotson and his colleagues will have to discover. The help of the graphologist Peter Jacoby will be decisive in verifying the authenticity of the letters. They also narrate the adventures and love affairs of the most prestigious authors of those years: Christopher Marlowe, Philip Sidney, William Shakespeare, Ben Johnson, Thomas Kyd or Edmund Spencer. The investigations carried out by the three colleagues will cast doubt on the authorship of some of Shakespeare's works. However, no expert will accept the result of their inquiries, and the defenders of the English tradition will present John Leslie Hotson as a foreigner interested in undermining patriotic values, which is why he will be viciously attacked.
