El cine español contra sí mismo

cosmopolitismo, experimentación, militancia

Marsh, Steven

"Spanish cinema against itself" traces the underground filmic continuities and discontinuities of the legacy of surrealism and political commitment within the Spanish state from the 1930s to the present day, from the pioneering work of Carlos Velo, José Val del Omar, Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí to the current militant cinema forged in the wake of 15-M. However, as much as it is rooted in history, this is not a historical book, but a counter-history, a challenge to temporality in its different forms. Framed by film theory and philosophical thought, this book follows in the footsteps of these antecedents to analyze the work of a series of understudied and non-canonical filmmakers with the aim of moving the debate on cinema towards more cosmopolitan alternative critical horizons. and complex. In the age of the postnational and the postcinematic, this volume challenges traditional historiographical discourse and calls into question the concept of "national cinema" and formal questions of film practice.
