Ehun metro

Saizarbitoria, Ramon

The novel One Hundred Meters was published in 1976, although it was completed by 1974. Dictator Franco died in 1975, but the first edition of the novel, which saw the light of day in 1976, did not pass any censorship laws in force, and with the kidnapping and withdrawal from bookstores, the author was also prosecuted and tried. In the same year, however, with the demise of the law of censorship, the novel returned to bookstores. The architecture of the novel, the rich techniques, resources and strategies used in the narrative have been repeatedly mentioned. And all this in support of a humble argument: the account of a hundred meters made by an activist fleeing from the police when he fell into a coffin. In these meters, fleeing police shooting and harassment, the protagonist brings to mind some anecdotes from his life. The fugitive directs his steps to an anonymous witness sitting on the terrace of a closed bar of his choice. He has chosen it, along with the ordeal of death that he suspects more and more deeply, as a handle, and as if we were in front of a ritual sacrifice, he will offer this witness to him in the offering of life. Why and why die in such a barren way, says the song, which is repeated as ritornello.
