Delivered at various conferences held in different European capitals in the years prior to the outbreak of World War II, the speeches collected in this volume reflect and explain the Montessori idea of peace not as a contingent state, but as the result of an educational process. . Peace, for Montessori, is not the simple absence of conflict, but a "positive concept of constructive social and moral reform", whose realization passes largely through a profound restructuring of pedagogical methods and school teaching. Ahead of their time and extraordinarily timely today, when the winds of war are once again blowing across Europe, these words remind us that peace is the consequence of a collective effort, a social construct whose fragile foundations rest on education.
