Coa man esquerda
Quiroga, Xabier
In Lisbon, opposite the Tagus estuary, a retired writer receives an envelope containing a note and a folder full of badly handwritten sheets. In them, a dying old man who lived in a nursing home ravaged by the pandemic recounts the unsettling events he experienced as a child in his home far from the village and which marked him forever. That kind of confession or legacy of the old man will serve to, in addition to freeing himself from a heavy burden, discover a secret that the writer did not know about himself. Using a very free and seductive style, Xabier Quiroga returns with a literary tool based on a real event. He does it with a rhythm that leaves little room to take a breath and by the hand of a narrator subject to the dictates of memory. The reader will be inevitably introduced into the stifling atmosphere of an inhospitable place and at the mercy of the same relationships that surround the boy's character. A hard and tender story at the same time, and finally terrifying, that brings us closer to the eternal vilification of the human being.
