Campos azules

Campos azules

Soria, Julia

A middle-aged woman returns to her village, on the Castilian plateau, accompanied by her brother, to sell her grandparents' house. The village is uninhabited and in the old house feelings and memories emerge through the notebooks that she wrote as a child. The 1960s were a turning point in her life when, at the age of twelve, she moved to town for a while with her maternal grandparents. In this period of growth she discovered the rural world, its customs and traditions, the hard work of the fields, as well as the beauty of nature and the importance of the essential. Her powerful affective bond with her grandmother, a wise and strong woman, her first love and a rural detective plot make up the protagonist's journey to her roots and to a reunion with herself. Campos Azules, the literary debut of Julia Soria, who is now seventy-three years old, is a beautiful formative novel, as well as an argument about writing and memory.
