Breviario del viejo corredor
Alabern, Lluís
Reader, you do not want to see in this book a guide, a protocol, a method, because it is not a compendium of advice, nor precepts, nor ways to reach any goal. What you will find in these pages will be basted fragments, reflections of an old runner in which running is mixed with drawing and orography with life. Running and drawing have become, over the years, two of my core activities. I started drawing around the same time I started running. I discovered the very short distance that separated the hand from the look, the eye from the footprint, the pencil from what the mind captured. Drawing is a way of looking slowly. Running cross-country is perceiving geological time, understanding that everything, including stone, is always in constant motion. So run often. Trot easy. Let yourself be carried away by the terrain. Watch when you run. Much is said about the legs and feet of the runner, but the fundamental thing is to look, to pay attention to the orography. Old runner, take care of your eyes. Avoid falls. But if you fall, don't resist. Become one with the ground. Don't compete. Don't run to win. When you run you discover yourself. Don't try to outdo yourself, don't try to outdo the field. Breathe easy. There are no goals. The horizon is the goal. The horizon never arrives.
