Basilio Martín Patino
Tolentino, Javier
Basilio Martín Patino studied Philosophy and Letters at the University of Salamanca, where he founded the Cine Club Universitario. Through his cinema, he put Franco's censorship in check with his reviews of the Civil War. "Nueve cartas a Berta" (1966) has been defined as the most modern and "nouvelle vague" film in Spanish cinema, and "Canciones para después de una guerra" (1971), as the film that Carrero Blanco would have wanted to never see. would have existed Awards, prizes and tributes failed to temper the reality and loneliness of his cinema, a career plagued by disagreements and an unfair and desperate isolation to which he was subjected and which, however, failed to deactivate or sadden him. Martín Patino's cinema is beautiful, independent, full of humor and libertarian ideals from which he never gave up.
