In 1938, under the rule of a nationalist dictatorship, Japan waged a war to expand in Asia. Meanwhile, four amateur musicians who love classical music, Yu, of Japanese origin, and three Chinese students, meet regularly to rehearse Rosamunde, Schubert's sonata. And those idyllic and harmonious sessions remove them from the environment of intolerance and terror that surrounds them. But Schubert's protection lasted a short time. A military patrol breaks into one of the rehearsals and arrests them. And nothing will be heard from them again. That day, Rei, Yu's son, has hidden in the closet, and from there he hears everything. When a lieutenant opens the door and discovers it, their eyes meet, and the worst seems to be about to happen. However, in complete silence, the lieutenant gives him his father's violin and leaves immediately, without giving him away. It is a moment that will mark Rei's life, the moment in which mercy and forgiveness interrupt cruelty and homicidal violence. Adopted by a French family, Rei will become a prominent luthier in Paris over the years. But he will never forget. Thus, after years of patient work, he will restore his father's violin and return to Japan, to close the circle that that lieutenant had left open...
