O retorno dos homes mariños
Souto, Xurxo
Xurxo Souto has become, in his own right, the narrator who best knows how to read the Galician sea. In "O retorno dos homes mariños" he rescues a forgotten myth of A Coruña: "Sometimes some fish of the same shape as men have been seen on this beach and in everything they resemble them, except that their hands are slightly twisted and feet like frogs. These fish, because they look so much like men, are called sailors". This is how Jerónimo del Hoyo, Canon of the Cathedral of Santiago, wrote it after visiting A Coruña in the 17th century. Mrs. Laura, the wise woman of the sea, knows everything there is to know about sailors. And Mercedes, who is also the protagonist of the novel "A gran travesía de Chiruca Macallás", works in a textile workshop. She is "heavy" and dreams of going around the world with her musical ensemble. Every night in the workshop, louder than the roar of the machines, she hears a voice that calls her: the song of the Orzán sea.
