Los cazarrecompensas

Leonard, Elmore

The Bounty Hunters (1953), Leonard's first novel, begins when a young and inexperienced cavalry officer, R.D. Bowers, and a seasoned Apache explorer, Dave Flynn, are sent on a near-suicide mission over the Mexican border to hunt down Apache chieftain Old Soldier and bring him back to American soil. Tracking down an elusive Indian rebel through the suffocating hell of a lawless wilderness, haunt of Apaches and white-haired hunters, is a high-stakes challenge where a hunter can end up as prey. Shortly after the search begins, the pursuers come across a Dantesque scene: three burned cars and the corpses of their occupants with their hair ripped out... but the other traces do not point to the modus operandi of the Indians.
