This book by Miguel Rodríguez Carnota, which is part of a doctoral thesis with the same title, is a study of the linguistic biography of ten Galician-speaking girls and boys in the linguistically hostile environment of a town and an institute in our country. His stories, x-rayed through discourse analysis techniques, place us entirely outside the official paradigm of "harmonic bilingualism." There are attacks, sufferings, renunciations, resistances, small triumphs and bitter defeats where the least is the "linguistic cordiality" that is usually proclaimed as the emblem of Galicia. In other words, in practice there is an incomprehensible opposition to wanting to make Galician a language as normal as any other.
