Mansfield, Katherine

When Katherine Mansfield's diary was first published in 1927, Dorothy Parker stated in her review for The New Yorker: "What we read is so intimate that I almost feel guilty walking through these pages. It is a magnificent book, but I think that only Katherine's big sad eyes should have read it." In reality, Katherine never intended to publish these texts. After her death in 1923, her husband and editor, John M. Murry, dedicated himself to rescuing all the writings that she had left unpublished from 1914 until three months before her death - fragments of fiction, brief personal notes, even the papers where she wrote household accounts - and he prepared with them this magnificent testimony, which reveals his most personal emotions and thoughts, his way of working and his love for life. Full of insights, tenderness and a sense of humor, this diary is an exceptional document to get to know one of the most outstanding authors of the 20th century in depth.
