Cerezas

Cerezas

II Premio Nacional de Poesía Ciudad de Lucena "Lara Cantizani"

Piqueras, Juan Vicente

Written during the five years that the author lived in Greece, the poems in Cerezas are lost companions to another book, Athens (Loewe Award 2012), now returning from the Trojan War. They speak of intimate iliads and conjugal odysseys, of the miracles and miseries of every day and of the whims of the gods. Of myths and beggars, of Heraclitus and stray dogs, of Ithaca and fig trees, of the thread that unites Ariadne with Penelope, of Oedipus and Dionysus. And cherries with the intense, miraculous and fugitive flavor of life. Cherries hanging from the ear of a child who calls us and who is called by our name. These verses, which are aware that the gods know better than we do what we need, have won the II City of Lucena Lara Cantizani Poetry Prize.
