Simón Hernández, a Bogotá writer with more pretensions than work, has died. And on his journey through the underworld he meets seven characters from all eras and landscapes: a Tunja nun from the 17th century, a Portuguese gravedigger who witnesses the destruction of Lisbon in 1755, a young impostor collaborating with Dumas, a German soldier who during World War I battles against his own violence, an astronaut disturbed by the experience of traveling to the Moon, a rabid rocker stalked by the fame of the eighties and a Chinese teacher who fights to recover humanity in the world of the future dominated by the machines.
