Yo, Moctezuma

The last Aztec emperor, Moctezuma II, dictates his memories to Orteguilla, the page of Hernán Cortés -who will later die in the retreat known by the name of "Sad Night" -, evoking his life before the arrival of the Spanish and describing the events that led to his decision to convert to Christianity. This, then, is the story of the conquest of Mexico in the voice of the first of its indigenous protagonists, whose mind, magnificently reconstructed by the author, portrays in an exciting and vivid way the time and situations that made one of the episodes possible most extraordinary in universal history.
