Vilariño, Idea
Direct and without artifice, this is the poetry that Idea Vilariño cultivated from a very young age. Her sickly nature and the early death of her parents and older brother plunged her into a state of melancholy that runs through all of her poetic work and endows her with a special sensitivity. Some of the themes that he captured in his verses are the nonsense of life, human nature or love: that uncontrollable force that overwhelms everything and that made him dedicate some of his most stark poems to Juan Carlos Onetti, with whom he maintained a passionate bond. Solitary and reserved, she claimed the figure of women both in her poetic writings and in her other productions. Idea Vilariño was part of the Uruguayan generation of 45, along with Mario Benedetti or Ida Vitale.
