Volver a contar
escritores de América Latina en los archivos del Museo Británico
Restrepo Pombo, Felipe
(ed.)
A new and challenging look at museum collections, which uses fictions and personal positions to make visible links between collections and local communities, thus outlining discussions on colonialism, gender studies and native cultures. The Santo Domingo Center of the British Museum (SDCELAR) and the Hay Festival invited ten Latin American writers to an experiment where each one selected a piece -or a set- to inspire a novel narrative. The authors approached the task with their particular look at the objects and collections that originally come from Latin America. The result is hybrid texts that explore, from very different styles and tones, the origins of the American continent and its relationship with Europe. This is not an anthology of stories, it is a work of joint narration that explores the gaps that remain in the official discourse: retelling, from literature, what we were, what we are and, perhaps, what we will be.
