O'Donovan, Gerald

Tom and Johanna Curtin have two daughters, educated in the best school in the region. The eldest, Winnie, to the satisfaction of her mother, has always wanted to be a nun and is about to enter the Mercy convent. The youngest, Kitty, whom her father would like to see married to a promising commercial clerk, has her own ideas ("We are nothing more than well-dressed automaton dolls", she says) and also her own love: a doctor who she sees passing every day on the street and whom you don't even know. Winnie, for her part, is also in love... with Father Burke, handsome, arrogant, lewd, and whom she hopes to see assiduously once she enters the convent.
