A tiger mosquito bites Emma Murphy during a beach barbecue on vacation with her family. On the way home, Emma has a seizure and her husband Brian takes her to the ER. An unnecessary decision according to the medical insurer, which she refuses to take care of the astronomical hospital bill. As the center's administration presses him to agree on a payment plan, the doctors release Emma even though her health has not improved. Soon after, her four-year-old daughter Juliette also begins to show symptoms. Overwhelmed by the tremendous emotional impact, Brian decides to fight the greed of the insurance company and the attitude of the hospital. When he meets other victims of this type of practice, he understands that there is strength in unity.
