Year 1538. Eager to win the favor of His Majesty, a family of merchants from Seville, the Cardeñas, bet their wealth on one of the king's most ambitious campaigns, the expedition of Pedro de Alvarado to the Spice Islands. The young Fernando de Cardeña will embark to the Indies with the intention of safeguarding the interests of his family and supplying the fleet of the advanced in the captaincy of Guatemala.
