Viena, 1912

In 1912, Vienna was an apparently peaceful city, the center of a continental empire that had survived the revolts of the 19th century. It had more than two million inhabitants and the Universal Exhibition had given it unquestionable prestige, embellished by the waltzes of the Strauss, the sweetness of sachertorte and the elegance of moiré dresses. But luxury and ostentation could not hide the fire of latent conflicts and the city was, like many places in Europe, a fertile field of ideological, political and social struggles. The great tragedy that would dismember that empire had not yet arrived, but it was coming, and that year, just as a premonition of how human pride ends, the Titanic sank and seemed to end a century. In this turbulent framework, Efraïm Zimmerman, reporter of the social chronicle of the Viennese newspaper Die Menschlichkeit, finds himself, without looking for it, in front of some inexplicable murders that will disturb his quiet life: little can imagine what is there behind and what you are about to discover.
