Viaje a pie

Josep Pla secluded himself in his Girona farmhouse in Llofriú once the Spanish Civil War ended. There he devoted himself to writing his best pages and to the exercise of literary journalism. He combined these activities with numerous short excursions through the towns and fields of the Ampurdán which, in turn, nourished his writings. His reunion with the people of his native land allowed him to collect juicy anecdotes and provoked very personal reflections on rural life as opposed to urban life. In 1949, he brought all this together in Viaje a pie, a very entertaining and amusing fresh look at the circumstances and customs of the Empordà. The expressive nature of his pages transcends this area to become a masterful reflection of the human condition.
