Venus en el espejo
Lara, Emilio
Destiny can sometimes be changed. And young Olympia knows that well. Intelligent and determined, contrary to the imposed norms of the time, she soon leaves the convent where she has been imprisoned against her will and she takes control of her life. It will be she, then, who governs the destinies of many others; she will achieve riches and fame, and with it she will protect poor women and prostitutes, she will commission majestic works of art and even help elect a Pope. It will be in 17th century Rome where Olimpia Maidalchini pulls her strings and gains enormous power, as she will control the Vatican and earn the enmity of the curia. Some skirts will command more than cassocks. Velázquez will travel to that same Rome as ambassador of Felipe IV. He will do it in search of great works for his queen, and he will also find inspiration and love in the model of one of his most famous paintings. And, in between, a popular revolution, carnival, luxurious parties and the art of Bernini, and all this under the canopy of an Eternal City that lives moments of splendor.
