In 1928, in a small fishing village in Japan, the young and modern teacher Hisako Oishi begins to teach twelve children, the twenty-four eyes that will witness her first formative year as a teacher. At first, the new teacher's unorthodox teaching methods, her sense of humor, and her city girl air provoke some suspicion in the community, though children and adults soon fall under her charm.
