Urbis phantasma
la literatura i l'imaginari urbà sota l'influx de la postmodernitat
Jovani, Sebastià
Do we live in a city or in a mass of signs? If the postmodern city is a text that never stops being written, what do we need to know to read it? And how can we participate in this semiotic and ghostly machinery without it expelling us or completely assimilating us?. Urbis phantasma is a multidisciplinary essay that proposes a heterogeneous journey through the various urban landscapes of postmodernity, the proposals for critical reflection that they provoke and, of course, the fictions and narratives that inhabit these landscapes or that project others from them , whether in consonance or as alternatives of resistance and dissent. It is in this encounter between literary space and urban space that Sebastià Jovani attempts an intimate cartography of modern and postmodern cities. Calling on Calvino, Weiss, Amis, Le Clézio, Ballard and so many others, Urbis phantasma examines the various answers we have given to the question of what it means to inhabit a city, at a time when the discourse on space urban is in crisis and urgently calls for reinvention.
