Una filosofía del miedo
Finalista Premio Anagrama de Ensayo
Castany Prado, Bernat
Fear is, according to Lucretius, the "invisible sting" that clouds our minds, robs us of sleep, separates us from the world and makes us selfish and cruel. It is not strange that so many philosophers have seen it as the main obstacle to achieving a good good life, that is, a pleasant and at the same time kind life. Following the four moments of classical philosophy, this book shows us how fear leads us to exaggerate threats, underestimate our resistance and confuse our (cognitive) reason; how it separates us from the world, preventing us from knowing it, exploring it and inscribing ourselves in it (ontology); how it multiplies sad passions, such as anger, shame or despair, making us cruel, since it is natural to want to destroy or remove what we feel as a threat (ethics); and how it erodes the political bond, making us distrustful and lonely, ultimately throwing us into the arms of fearmongers, who promise to protect us from threats they themselves exaggerate or provoke, in exchange for us surrendering our freedom ( politics).
