Un pingüino en Trieste
Carminati, Chiara
This is the story of Nicolò, a young man from Trieste, who at the age of fifteen decides to leave his entire life behind to go in search of his father, a sailor who never returned from Africa after the war. Defying the uncertainty and seasickness that sailing causes him, he obtains a position among the crew of the Europa, an eleven thousand ton ship, and sets out for South Africa with the crazy idea that his father may still be alive. On board, Nicolò will discover the unpleasantness of his new independence, the bittersweet taste of his first love, the treasure of friendship and also the obstacles that the hateful bartender insists on putting in front of him day after day. Furthermore, he will meet and protect a unique penguin, a stowaway on the ship, whom he will name Marco and who will later have a long and honorable career in the city of Trieste.
