Four months have passed since the Shadow Stone fell into Kell's hands. Four months since his path crossed that of Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded, since the Dane twins fell, and since the stone with Holland's dying body was thrown into the abyss, back to Black London. In many ways, it seems like almost everything is back to normal, even though Rhy is more sober and Kell is now wracked with guilt. Restless, having abandoned smuggling, Kell has dreams about sinister magical events, and wakes up only to continue thinking about Lila, who disappeared from the docks as he had always wanted. As Red London prepares for the Elemental Games, an extravagant international magic competition intended to entertain and strengthen ties between neighboring countries, a certain pirate ship approaches to bring old friends back to port. But while Red London is enveloped in the splendor and excitement of the Games, another London is coming back to life, as are all those thought to be gone forever.
