Oates, Joyce Carol

Franky grows up in Seattle in a privileged family: her father is a very famous sports commentator and her mother is an artist and very caring. Everything in the Piersons' lives is wonderful, from the extravagant lifestyle in a designer mansion to the private schools and vacations at the elegant beach houses of their wealthy friends. But when Franky's parents split up because her mother decides to leave home, she takes her father's side without connecting her mother's running away with her father's violent and controlling nature. Only when events come to a head does Franky realize she must embark on a painful search for the truth, even if it means leaving her childhood behind.
