Why did Russia invade Ukraine in February 2022? What are the reasons for the conflict? When did it really start? Ukraine 22, a nod to the title of the well-known novel by Joseph Heller Trap 22, tells us in a profound and illuminating way, the History of the war in Ukraine. To explain the current Ukrainian conflict, Francisco Veiga goes back to its origins in the period from 1986 to 1991, before the dissolution of the Soviet Union; it goes through the subsequent tensions caused by the energy business, and the Orange Revolution of 2004 and 2005, which turned Ukraine into a key player in the "New Cold War"; addresses the previous conflicts in Georgia, in 2008, and Nagorno-Karabakh, in 2020; continues by the role played by the Euromaidan and Crimea crises in 2014 and 2015, along with the latent war that has been waged in the Donbas since then; to finish delving into the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, which began in the winter of 2022 and has become one of the hot wars of the Post-Cold War, this time on European territory.
